After not finding a large enough single location on 12th Street, consignment car dealership Car Swap decided to open in two locations near one another.
One dealership is at 12th Street and Elmwood Avenue. The other is at 12th and Western Avenue. Each offers 45 vehicles that include a “little bit of every make and model,” said partner Randy Huling.
The business focuses on providing a better customer experience in a relaxed environment, he said.
“We’re not your everyday used-car dealer,” Huling said. “We want to have the right inventory that have factory and newer warranties.”
Car Swap also offers total loss coverage and remote-start installation.
This May, Huling hopes to start special vehicle promotions for people working in jobs that give back to the community, such as for police officers, firefighters and veterans.
“Not a lot of used-car dealerships do things like this, and even new dealerships aren’t doing it the way we’re doing it,” Huling said. “We just want to show people that we do care and we do appreciate everything they’ve done.”
If business continues to go well, Car Swap is looking to create a flagship location and open stores in other cities, with the possibility of expanding to Rapid City. Dusty Johnson – not the politician – and Kevin Tupy also are partners in the dealerships.
